Friday Night ‘Rows and a shout-out to Darcy’s Botanicals

We had a nice, quiet evening at home tonight, playing with toys, watching the end of Shrek 3 and putting some new braids in Sophia’s hair.  I love these kinds of nights!
Sophia had been sporting some flat twists back to a pony — an easy and cute style that lasted several days longer than I [...]

A cute, continuous cornrow (with a puff to boot!)

I’m always trying to think of new hairstyle for Sophia.  We’ve done box braids, big twists, puffs, piggyback braids, veil styles and lots of cornrow variations, including criss-cross cornrows. I love the look of a big puff on the top of her head, but her hair is still shorter in some places — not quite long [...]

Post-style braid-out: Darcy’s Botanicals

After almost a week in braids using new products from Darcy’s Botanicals, it was time to de-braid.  I was particularly interested in this de-braiding (despite the fact that it’s usually the worst part of hair styling)!  I was anxious to see the condition of her hair after trying these new products.  I was hoping for [...]

New Darcy’s Botanicals products + fresh style = great hair morning

We have in our possession some new hair products from Darcy’s Botanicals!  I love trying out new hair products!  They came yesterday — perfect timing as Sophia was due for a shampoo, deep conditioning and new style.

Style: Cornrows
Products used: Blended Cuties Silky Swirls Shampoo, Darcy’s Botanicals Deep Conditioning Mask,  Darcy’s Botanicals Herbal Leave-In Spritz, Darcy’s Botanicals [...]

Wordless Wednesday

Braids…with beads!

We tried a new braiding pattern last night…turned out pretty good, although I want to do something different with the back next time around.  I also added a few beads for the first time…Sophia likes to shake her head to hear the beads click together!

Front-to-back cornrows

Style: Front-to-back cornrows
Products used: Mix of water/Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier, Paul Mitchell Foaming Pomade.
Tools needed: Pin tail comb, alligator clips, snaps, spray bottle with water/conditioner mix
Tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL1DWme8ShY&feature=channel_page
Initial impression: My ‘rows are getting better and better, although I’m still working on straight parts and equal sections!  I did six front-to-back cornrows and it took about an hour.
Tips/thoughts for next time:  I’ve been using [...]

Where did you get that sleep cap?

I’ve gotten a few questions lately about the sleep caps that Sophia wears to protect her hair when it’s in a style.  Here’s a picture if you need a refresher:

Not only are the sleep caps a predictor of Sophia’s future career as a surgeon, they are also very helpful in minimizing the fuzzies when her [...]

Cornrows with a puff in the back

Style: Cornrows (side part in front); big puff in back
Products used: Mix of water/Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier and TW Lock It Up.

Tips/thoughts for next [...]

Breakfast first, hair combing second

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:  Man, I love this kid!
